What Is a Digital Stamp?

Digital Stamp is a new way of stamping documents in Karnataka. It compliments other ways of  payment of stamp duty on documents such as the use of "Stamp Paper", "Franking of Stamps" and payment of duty at the treasury.

A Digital Stamp looks as under:

This stamp is sold as an stationery item through designated Stamp Vendors and retail points. A list of locations where the stationery is available is found here.

The Stamp can be digitally imprinted with the name of the buyer and value through this website. (http://www.onlinestamps.kar.nic.in).

This digitally imprinted stamp can be affixed on any document requiring stamp duty payment as per Karnataka Stamp Act. (Act)

After execution of the document and within 48 hours, the usage of the stamp has to be reported through this site and such reporting constitutes "Cancellation" of stamps as per the Act.

This Digital Stamp is a "Brick and Click" instrument which exists in the form of a physical instrument but whose value is controlled through a Central IT system.

By its unique design, it prevents the public from being defrauded by  fake or counterfeit stamps. Any member of the public can check the authenticity of a Stamp by logging on to the website and entering the serial number in the query box.

A similar query can also be run through telephone by dialling the number 98400-xxxxx and entering the serial number through an interactive voice response system.
