Forthcoming Programme
Kannada Balaga General Body Meeting will take place on
27th July 2003 at Ramarao Auditorium, 111. Habibulla Road T Nagar, Chennai at
2.00 pm. Get together will commence at 10.00 am. Election of New Office bearers
is scheduled for 2.00 pm. The GB notice has already been sent and any member who
has not received the same may contact Secretary Mr Subhashchandra or the
outgoing President Naavi.
Those who are interested in contesting for the posts of
President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer and Committee
Members (15) are requested to file nominations at the earliest (Nominations
close on 20.7.2003). For details contact Secretary.

Kannada Balaga and Kannadigara Koota are organizing a "Haasya
Sanje" (Humour Evening) on 29/6/2003 at Shankara Mutt premises in Raja Annamalai
Puram at 6.15 pm. Mr Beluru Ramamurthy a humourist from Bangalroe will address.
The Kannada Sanghas in Chennai are hosting a day long
Cultural activities in Chennai on March 22, 2003, in association with the
Department of Kannada Culture and Literature, Government of Karnataka.
In a joint meeting of all Kannada Sanghas with the Deputy Director of the
Department Mr Chikkanna, it was decided that the programme will be held at the
Karnataka Sangha Premises in Habibulla Road, T Nagar.
This is the first time such an event is being organized in
Chennai.
The details of the programme are being worked out and will consist of
entertainment and literary engagements.

Annual Ladies and Youth Programme of Kannada Balaga was
succesfully conducted at the German Hall under the president ship of Mr Pranesh,
Secretary, Tamil Nadu Govt.
A Hair Dressing Competition was conducted as a part of the
programme.
Cultural programmes were presented by several Sanghas and
associations of Bengal, Rajasthan, Kerala etc.
26th January 2003:
An Excursion had been organized to
Ponidcherry . The group spent a good time at the Beach and also visited the
Aurobindo Ashram and Meditation Center.
24th November2003:
Kannada Rajyotsava -2002
All the Kannada Sanghas in Chennai jointly celebrated the Rajyotsava on 24th November 2002. This year, the programme
was
coordinated by Karnataka Sangha, Habibulla Road, T.Nagar.

Kannada Balaga wins Alround Shield in Janapada Geethe Competition
The 30 th annual Janapada Geethe competition was successfully
conducted by Kannada Balaga at Vidyodaya School Auditorium, T.Nagar.
Over 70 participants in different age groups rendered
different songs from the Janapada style. The youngest group was upto 5 years and
it was a treat to watch the kids sing Kannada Janapada songs.
Three Kannada Sanghas from out of Chennai, namely Neyveli, Kalpakkam and Anu
Puram, Kalpakkam participated in the competition.
Dr GopalaKrishna, Professor of Kannada, Dravida University, Kuppam, Mrs Laxi
Devi Bhat, Assistant Editor, Encyclopedia of Kannada Folklore, and Mr
Parthasarathy, Technical Director Alcast India Ltd, were the honourable judges.
Kannada Balaga won the rolling trophy for overall championship.
Mr N.S.Srinath, DGM Canara Bank gave away the prizes.
Mr Balu, Proprietor RajBhavan Hotel and partner Sangeetha group of hotels
sponsored the High Tea.
August 15, 2002
As a part of the social service activities of Kannada Balaga,
members of the Balaga visited Udhavum Ullangal, an orphanage and Old Age home in
Adambakkam and donated sets of cloth donated by members for the use of inmates.
Additionally the day's food for the inmates was sponsored by the Balaga and some
of the members gave personal donation for the organization.
Mr Naavi, Mr Swamy, Mr Waikar visited the place with
their families along with Mrs Mamata Ananth Kumar.
August 3, 2002 Murali's Sriraag, Music Programme
A Musical Night Programme was held at U.Rama Rao Kala Mandira, Habibulla
Road, Chennai, 600017. Murali Sriraag and party presented light music in
different languages.
Funds raised in the programme are meant for the various social and
cultural activities of Kannada Balaga under the "Lahari" programme. July 28, 2002 Satya Narayana Puja
The year's activity began with the succesful conduct of the Satya Narayana
Puja at Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt, T.Nagar. It was well attended.
July 7, 2002 General Body Meeting
The Annual General Body Meeting of the members of Kannada Balaga will took
place at the YMCA grounds, Nandanam.
Members assembled from 10.30 am for registration.
Ms Apeksha Bhatt conducted the games in the morning session between 11.00 am
and 1.00 pm.
After Lunch, M/s Sudha Kesari Prasad and Kesari Prasad conducted Housie
Housie.
The formal meeting started at 2.30 pm with a welcome address from the
President who also outlined the activities envisaged by the Balaga in the next
year.
In particular he highlighted that
a) Social Service Programmes would be undertaken by Kannada Balaga under the
name "Lahari".
b) Conducting an Annual Chess Competition amongst all Kannada Associations
would be explored.
c) Every programme in the following year would be undertaken by a sub
committee with a coordinator for each of the programmes. Volunteers were invited
to undertake the responsibilities and the following volunteers were identified.

The Coordinators of each of the sub committees will prepare a
plan of action and present it to the Executive committee at the appropriate
times. They will be assisted by the President, Secretary and other senior
members.
Members cooperation was sought for marketing the tickets for
the Entertainment programme. It was clarified that the surplus generated from
the programme would be utilized for the revenue expenses of the Balaga.
NRI Flat Supervision
It was discussed that if any NRI s having property in Chennai
would like to have a local caretaker, Kannada Balaga can explore the
possibilities of undertaking the responsibilities provided that the place can be
used by Balaga for its periodical meetings.
A Concrete plan in this regard would be developed and any
opportunity of that nature would be explored.
CRY Sponsorship
As a symbolic gesture of having commenced Social Service
activities, Kannada Balaga sponsored one student under the CRY student promotion
plan. Additionally Mr Bhagvan sponsored a second child personally.
Mr Subhash Chandra presented the secretaries report which was
adopted unanimously after some clarifications.
Mr Shriram presented the accounts for the year which was
adopted after some clarifications.
Mr Ramadas, Ex-President and senior member of the Balaga gave
away the prizes to the winners of the various competitions.
Ms Sharada proposed the vote of thanks.
July 2, 2002 Executive Committee Meeting
The EC met on July 2, 2002, at Karnataka Sangha premises and discussed
various issues. The details are as follows.
Special Membership Drive
All life membership enrolments upto August 3rd, 2002 will get
a complimentary ticket of Rs 100/- for the Entertainment programme on 3rd
August. The member can also claim rebate on the Course fee from Cyber Law
College against fees payable for any of the online programme.
Chess Tournament
Considering the popularity of the annual Cricket tournament
in bringing together the members of various Kannada Associations in one
platform, it is suggested that an annual Chess tournament should be launched
during the next year.
"Lahari" as a Socio Cultural Programme
The Executive Committee discussed the proposal of Naavi that
there is a need for Kannada Balaga to take up some social service activities and
position itself as a "Socio-Cultural Organization". These programmes will be
undertaken under the name "Lahari" as a symbol of a Wave of Compassion flowing
from the Balaga to the community around them. The proposal had a broad consensus
and it was agreed that further planning in this direction would be taken up
after discussions in the GB meeting.
Miscellaneous Administration Matters
Mr Murali of Sriraag also met the EC members and the plan of
action for the entertainment programme on 3rd August was discussed.
Ms Apeksha Bhat, TV Artist and presenter was also
present and agreed to shoulder the responsibility of conducting games and
other member activities during the GB meeting on 3rd August.
Additionally, some aspects of the forthcoming Janapada
Sangeetha competition and Satya Narayana Puja were also discussed.
June 30
The finals of the K N Manjunath memorial Cricket
tournament was as thrilling as the last year. Karnataka Sangha snatched a last
over victory against Kannada Balaga with two wickets to spare to lift the
rolling shield. Winning the toss and putting Kannada Balaga to bat,
Karnataka Sangha chased the target of 183 in 30 overs successfully.
Mr B. Suresh Kamath, Chairman and Managing Director of
Laser Soft Infosystems Ltd distributed the prizes.
June 27, 2002
The finals of the K.N.Manjunath Memorial Cricket
tournament will take place on Sunday the 30 th June 2002, at the ICF Cricket
Ground Perambur, between Kannada Balaga and Karnataka Sangha. The match will
commence at 9.00 am and will be played over 30 overs each side.
There will be a prize distribution ceremony at the end of
the match around 3.00 pm.
All are invited.

Cricket Tournament:
The Annual K.N.Manjunath Memorial Cricket Tournament is presently on.
The teams participating are:
1.Kannada Balaga
2.Karnataka Sangha
3.Kannada Sangha, Ayanavaram
4.Bunts Cultural Association
5.Bunts Association
6.Master Packaging.
So far
Kannada Balaga and Master packaging have played one match each and won.
Karnataka Sangha has played two matches and won both of them.
On 23rd of this month, Kannada Balaga and Master Packaging will play against
each other and the winner is expected to face Karnataka Sangha in the finals to
be played on 30th June, 2002.
All matches are being played at ICF cricket ground, Perambur.
General Body meeting:
On 7th of July, 2002, the Annual General Body Meeting of the Balaga will be
held at YMCA Grounds at 3.00 pm.
