(I request my Secular friends not to misunderstand my motives in quoting
this incident)
There is a site in a place called Ayodhya in India where one section
of the Indian society believes was a temple of "Lord Rama". Rama is a lead
character in one of the top epics of India called Ramayana and is worshipped
as God. Ayodhya is believed to be the birth place of Rama. This section
of the society believes that during an invasion, a muslim king demolished
the temple and built a mosque over it.
The mosque was not in use for some time and there was an adjoining Ram
Temple in the vicinity of the unused mosque.
During a popular upsurge of people in 1992, a mob of people forcefully
demolished the mosque structure before the eyes of many political leaders.
This was an incident of "People taking Law into their hands" because
they felt that the politicians and the judiciary were unable to respond
to their view in time.
(Presently the courts are examining if the "Demolition" was an illegal
conspiracy in which the political leaders of some parties were involved)
