Some time back we had reported on the draft of Cyber Laws initiated by the Ministry of Commerce. The drafts were available on this site until now. These drafts of Electronic Commerce Act and Electronic Commerce Support Act had been prepared to facilitate a secure regulatory environment for Electronic Commerce. An initiative in this regard had also been taken at the level of Department of Electronics. Both these draft bills had been sent to the Law Ministry for adoption. After due consideration of all the recommendations, the Information Technology Bill- 99 has now been presented in the parliament. The Bill will after due discussions would be passed with or without modifications in due course. With the separate ministry for Information Technology having been now formed ,the formalities in converting the Bill into an operative act is expected to proceed with some urgency. In the meantime, in order to place the complex techno-legal issues involved in the Cyber Laws and explain its relevance and importance to the ordinary Netizens in India and elsewhere, there was an urgent need for a Book on the subject.
