The Gurgaon BPO fraud has created an embarassing
situation for Infinity e-Search, the company in which Mr Karan Bahree was
employed.
Initially, the company claimed that
it had nothing to
do with the data scam and the data of the type alleged to have been traded
by Karan was not being handled by the Company. "We are a web marketing company
not a call centre or a BPO. We do not have any bank in UK as our customer. We
do not have any clients in the banking sector," Rahul Dutt, Managing Director,
Infinity e-Search, is reported to have said. "It is a coincidence that Bahree
is working with us. We do not handle any classified information of any client
so there is not question of him getting this information through the company."
“Any claims that Bahree has confessed are
absolutely baseless,” Infinity CEO Rahul Dutt is
reported to have told HT.
Infinity’s lawyer is
quoted in Reuters that
"it was likely Bahree did not know how important the information on the CD
was".
If the company was
confident of this, then they should have given credence to the possibility of
the counter view that Karan could have been framed in the case which was
mainly aimed at India bashing.
According to a
PTI
report carried in Express India, the company had said that it would not
take any action against the 24-year-old employee, hired three months ago as a
probationer because there was no formal complaint against him.
Telegraph has carried a story today recording the views of Karan's father
that he has been framed by Samir and the tabloid.
However, today the Company is
reported to have
sacked Karan. If Karan is convicted of the crime then without any further
proof, Infinity e-Search will also be primarily liable under Section 85 of the
ITA-2000.
It appears that Infinity e-Search is digging its
own grave by sacking Karan.
Looking at the website
http://www.infinityesearch.com/
(June 26th 18.00 hours), the company appears more a "Web Marketing Company"
rather than a web design company or a BPO. It has offices in USA and Italy
besides Gurgaon. It claims to provide " quality IT consulting, software
solutions and E commerce solutions to help clients achieve measurable business
results throughout the world".
According to some reports Bahree is an employee
of Daksh eServices
Pvt. Ltd which is a BPO having some relations to IBM as well as Bank
information processing. It is not clear if this company had sub
contracted the work to infinity e-search At this point of time we
do not have any information other than what is available on the website and
hence we refrain from making any further comments on the Company.
If Karan Bahree does not appear to contradict
himself, he should now claim damages from Infinity e-Search for sacking him
for wrong reasons and causing defamation to him by adding credence to the
allegation.
This type of development would provide another
interesting turn to the event lending strength to our earlier demand
that the case is fit to be investigated by CBI from all angles including Cyber
Terrorism angle.
